Marcus Rashford has sent Jadon Sancho a message following Borussia Dortmund's defeat at the weekend. The on-loan Manchester United winger fired Edin Terzic's side ahead in the first half, but RB Leipzig quickly found an equaliser before running away 4-1 victors at the Red Bull Arena.

Despite Sancho's best efforts on Saturday afternoon, he couldn't quite drag the German giants over the line. Shortly before the half hour mark, the England international intercepted a tame clearance on the edge of the box, cut inside and curled a delightful effort into the top corner.

Peter Gulacsi was left rooted to the spot as his strike, which declared him the new English record goalscorer in the Bundesliga, glided past him. After the game, Sancho marked his performance with a celebratory post on Instagram, where he described his 'bittersweet' feeling.

"A result to reflect on… thank you for the travelling fans who came to support us today! A bittersweet moment also for breaking the English record goal scorer in the Bundesliga surpassing the legend Tony Woodcock!"

Sancho has now featured 12 times for Dortmund in the Bundesliga this season, netting two and setting up two. He's taken his all-time tally in the German top flight to 116 appearances with 40 goals and 53 assists.

The former Manchester City ace's post chalked up nearly 400,000 likes over the weekend, while his friends showed their support in the comment section. But one message from Rashford stood out in particular, making his feelings about Sancho absolutely clear ahead of his return in the summer.

The Red Devils forward simply wrote two red heart emojis. Sancho also received messages from Noni Madueke, Reiss Nelson, Tammy Abraham, Kyle Walker-Peters and Shea Lacey. Now, Dortmund turn their attention to a Champions League semi-final clash against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night.

Speaking to the official club website ahead of the first leg at the Signal Iduna Park, Sancho insisted that his side must remain humble. He said: "It's a new game, the group stage is in the past.

"We just have to concentrate on what's in front of us and how we want to play in the tie," added the Englishman. "We have to remain humble in these times.

"Paris will be another tough test for us and we have to give our all to get to the final. I'm just focusing on the next game and that's how we'll approach it, game by game."

Then, on facing former Dortmund teammate Achraf Hakimi, Sancho added: "We had a great connection when we played together. It will be nice to see him again, he's a great player. We'll be ready and I'm sure they'll be ready too - so it'll be a good battle."
