Chelsea have finally received the green light for Sam Jewell to start his new role as their new head of recruitment ahead of the summer transfer window. The 34-year-old has been on gardening leave since accepting a role at Stamford Bridge after impressing at Brighton and Hove Albion.

It had been expected that Jewell would begin his work in November, but it has now been reported that he will now start in the summer. According to Fabrizio Romano, the former head of recruitment at Brighton, he will start his role at Chelsea once the season comes to an end.

Writing in his Daily Briefing, he said: "The green light has arrived for former Brighton head of recruitment Sam Jewell to start his new job at Chelsea.

"Jewell was on gardening leave, but it’s all agreed now to start work for the summer window. He’ll have a senior role as part of multi-club project to select new players."

The upcoming summer transfer window is set to be a crucial one for Todd Boehly and Mauricio Pochettino. After a season of inconsistency, the Blues have kept their hopes of European football alive in recent weeks, strengthening their case with a 5-0 win over West Ham.

"I don't want to say nothing because from the beginning of the season I said the objective always is to win because we are Chelsea, but that created too much pressure," Pochettino said. "The team is now going to be focusing to rest tomorrow and Tuesday prepare for the game on Saturday.

"The objective for us is to be mature and to keep the momentum and to compete, improving in every single game. We are going to try to be in Europe. It's going to be good for the team and the players to be in Europe next season."

Jewell will play a big part in, hopefully, returning Chelsea to the pinnacle of English and European football next season. However, with over £1billion spent on new signings in the past, the club will have to be more considerate with their spending to avoid any FFP breaches.
