Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti said that his team isn't "weird" ahead of it taking on Bayern Munich in the Champions League semifinals.
The Italian was asked to address comments from Bernardo Silva, who missed a penalty in a quarterfinal second leg clash shootout for Manchester City which Los Blancos ended up winning 4-3 in the Etihad.
"Real Madrid is a strange team. Sometimes it seems like you have control of the game and out of nowhere, they run twice and score two goals because their players individually are very good. They are so fast and strong on the counterattack that it is not easy to control them," the Portuguese said.
Responding to this at a prematch press conference before Madrid meets Bayern in the last four on Tuesday, Ancelotti said: "We're not weird, we're a team whose weight of the shirt in this competition counts for a lot."
"I've nothing to say to Bernardo Silva, who is a fantastic footballer. They had a good time last year and this year we had a good time," Ancelotti added.
Ancelotti didn't agree that his men had been written off by the football world until getting this far in the current edition of the competition where they are record winners either.
"Madrid is never underestimated in this competition, because everyone knows what we can do. We have respect from everybody," he insisted.
Now some are "taking it for granted" that Madrid will be in the final at Wembley on June 1, but this doesn't worry Ancelotti.
"We're cofident to take on a team that hasn't had a great Bundesliga, but they have played a tie against Arsenal. They are coming off the back of knocking out a very strong team in Europe. In the Champions League, history counts a lot and that works in our favour.
Though as Ancelotti noted the two sides are in different moments with Madrid about to be crowned La Liga champions while Bayern have had their run of 11 German top flight titles brought to a halt, Ancelotti said that they are similar "in terms of quality".
"They are strong in transition, they can play in different ways and they are very dangerous. There are two of us who don't have a very clear identity. We can both play in different ways."
