Crystal Palace are reportedly interested in one transfer target ahead of the summer window, with Oliver Glasner set to ‘join the race’ for a player he knows well.

All signs are pointing to an exciting summer at Selhurst Park, as Crystal Palace prepare for a busy transfer window in preparation for the 2024/25 campaign.

After taking charge of the squad in February, Oliver Glasner will have his eyes on several players to bolster his side, particularly if the Eagles are to lose the key players that are attracting interest.

The likes of Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise are expected to become the subject of a host of speculation in the summer, with reports also adding Marc Guehi to the mix of Palace stars that have admirers.

A report from the Telegraph today speculated that the centre-back is of interest to Manchester United and Arsenal, with his £55m price tag quoted.

It would be unlikely for Palace to be able to lose Guehi, Eze and Olise in the summer with all three players being extremely difficult to replace however, one suitor to fill a potential void left by Guehi has been identified.

Crystal Palace ‘join the race’ to sign Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix

Yesterday, the Telegraph named Crystal Palace as one of the clubs that admire Wolfsburg centre-back Maxence Lacroix, with AC Milan also said to have ‘kept tabs’ on the 24-year-old.

The report is interesting considering that the Bundesliga outfit could be in a position to cash in on their prized defender in the summer, as he has just one year remaining on his current deal, with GFFN reporting alongside that the central defender ‘will leave’.

Lacroix is a defender that Glasner knows very well as the Austrian was responsible for bringing the Frenchman to Wolfsburg back in 2020 from Ligue 2 side Sochaux, subsequently igniting his career.

Now a regular in the German top flight, the 2000-born star could have the Premier League on his horizon, with Palace eyeing the opportunity to reunite him with his old manager.

Would Maxence Lacroix be a good signing for Crystal Palace?

Once lauded as a “simply unbelievable” defender by talent scout Jacek Kulig during his time working with Glasner in Germany, Lacroix has impressed greatly at Wolfsburg over the years.

Maxence Lacroix Marc Guehi
Tackles 1.72 1.22
Progressive passes 3.18 2.73
Clearances 4.73 4.05
Dribblers tackled 73.5% 56.5%

The goalscoring centre-back, who has netted four goals in the Bundesliga this term, would be an undoubtedly strong signing for Palace, whether it would be in the instance to partner or replace Guehi.

As seen above, there are traceable similarities between the two central defenders, with the Wolfsburg star actually performing at a higher level per 90 than the Palace star this season.

It would be interesting to see Glasner reunite with Lacroix, a player he signed as a 20-year-old, in what could be a trail of events to pay attention to ahead of the summer transfer window.
