Sky Reporter Confirms United Have Made ‘Initial Contact’ About Signing Player Described As The New Saliba

Manchester United have made “initial contact” with Lille about Leny Yoro, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The journalist, who is pretty reliable when it comes to transfer stories, says the Red Devils are considering the Frenchman as a potential alternative to Jarrad Branthwaite.

Erik ten Hag’s side have had an initial £35m (plus add-ons) bid rejected for the Everton defender, with the Toffees holding out for double that amount.

With there being such a sizeable gap between the two teams’ valuations of the player, United have already decided to explore other avenues, with Yoro seemingly next on their list.

What do United fans need to know about Yoro?

The centre-back is only 18 years of age but he is a precocious talent, with some in the media having likened him to Arsenal’s William Saliba.

Despite his young age, Yoro was a regular starter last season, making 44 appearances in all competitions for Lille.

However, the defender is closing in on the final year of his contract, and it is expected that he will be sold this summer if a club pays between €50m (£42m) and €60m (£51m).

Other clubs are interested in Yoro

Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in the player but United’s main rival is said to be Real Madrid. Yoro is believed to favour a move to the Bernabeu.

At the moment, the European champions have not entered negotiations with Lille for the teenager and the Red Devils may have to wait patiently to find out what happens in terms of his potential switch to Spain.

If an agreement between Lille and Real can’t be reached, it would then allow United to make an approach. For now, though, the club are not in pole position to secure Yoro’s signature.
