The Liverpool hierarchy believe that one player is highly under-appreciated and think that he will have a big role to play in the post-Jurgen Klopp era at Anfield.

Arne Slot looks set to be gifted an outstanding group of players, with Liverpool spending much of the season in the Premier League title race.

Ultimately, they ran out of steam at the worst time, squandering a number of chances in the games against the likes of Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Everton which put paid to their title hopes.

One of those who blew a number of opportunities was Darwin Nunez, with the Uruguayan failing to score in his last six league appearances in the top-flight.

Liverpool hierarchy think Darwin Nunez is under-appreciated

The 24-year-old has come in for plenty of criticism, with Jamie Carragher one of those who does not believe that Nunez will ever be the ruthless goalscorer Liverpool need. But according to a report from 90min, those behind the scenes at Liverpool have the utmost faith in Nunez.

In fact, the club’s hierarchy think that he does not get the full credit he deserves, with how hard he works for the team.

Reds needed so much more from striker this season

Nunez definitely brings a lot to the table. He has contributed eight assists, as well as scoring 11 goals in the Premier League this season.

But the Reds paid £64 million in a deal which could rise to £85 million to sign Nunez, so it is fair to have expectations that he would have scored a lot more goals.

According to FBRef, only Dominic Calvert-Lewin is performing worse against his non-penalty expected goals than Nunez.

And with Mohamed Salah also off the boil, Nunez’s wastefulness in front of goal really hurt Liverpool at a time when they needed their big players to step up.

But clearly, the Liverpool hierarchy believe that there is a lot more to come from Nunez in the years to come.
