Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a ‘shock’ move for a former player Arsene Wenger once sold for just £10m during his tenure as manager.

The Gunners are no strangers to offloading players at the wrong time in their careers, with Serge Gnabry the most famous case as the German winger went on to become one of the best attackers in the world after leaving Arsenal.

Donyell Malen, Ismael Bennacer and Emi Martinez are other examples of players who were sold by Arsenal and went on to become superstars in the game, with fans hopeful that these errors don’t happen again in the future.

Yet one such name who fits this category could now be on his way back to Arsenal.

Wojciech Szczesny lined up with shock return to Arsenal

According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal could make a move to sign Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny nearly seven years on since the Polish international was sold by Wenger to the Italian giants for £10m.

Replacing legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon in Turin, Szczesny has remained Juventus’ no. 1 since moving to the Serie A side in 2017, yet, as per the report, this summer could see the 34-year-old replaced with Monza star Michele Di Gregorio.

With Aaron Ramsdale expected to leave and Arsenal in need of filling their Premier League homegrown quota, it makes sense why Szczesny has now emerged as a potential target for the Gunners heading into the summer.

And if Juventus are open to selling, Mikel Arteta could pull the strings to bring in his former back to Arsenal, a club where Szczesny is still fondly remembered by supporters.

Arsenal should be doing all they can to bring back former Wenger star

Despite the circumstances of Szczesny’s departure from Arsenal, there’s no denying that for what the Gunners need next season, the veteran goalkeeper is a perfect summer signing.

Experienced in the UEFA Champions League and now a seasoned winner with Juventus, Szczesny ticks every possible box Arsenal need when it comes to find a replacement for Ramsdale and competition for David Raya.

With Szczesny also an Arsenal supporter, it might not take much to convince the Polish superstar to return to north London, where fans will welcome the keeper back with open arms.
