Jack Grealish has sent a warning message in response to Manchester City being knocked out of the Champions League.
City were denied the chance to win an unprecedented double treble as they came unstuck against Real Madrid. Both legs of their quarter-final tie ended in draws but Pep Guardiola’s side were ultimately eliminated in a heartbreaking penalty shootout.
Despite the setback, City have the opportunity to end the season with a different kind of treble this season. They won the Club World Cup earlier in the campaign; are leading the Premier League table; and are preparing for an FA Cup semi-final clash against Chelsea on Saturday.
City forward Jack Grealish has addressed the defeat to Real Madrid on social media but also sent a message to their title rivals Liverpool and Arsenal, as well as upcoming opponents Chelsea. Writing on his Instagram story, Grealish said: “Gutted to go out, especially in this way. Still a lot to play for this season! Come on boys.”
There are only a few days to overcome their Champions League disappointment in a potentially pivotal week for City. The right response will help Guardiola’s side move a step closer to retaining the FA Cup before resuming their title bid with two away trips to Brighton and Nottingham Forest in the space of seven days.
The sentiments of Grealish’s message indicate that City will be determined to end the season on a high. In terms of the title race, City hold a two-point lead over Liverpool and Arsenal, who are split by goal difference, with six games remaining.
