As Marseille seeks a new coach to succeed Jean-Louis Gasset next season, they’ve set their sights on Paulo Fonseca, soon to be a free agent. Despite rumors swirling around his future, the Portuguese tactician remains unfazed.
According to Le 10 Sport, Marseille has prioritized Paulo Fonseca as their next coach. With Gasset departing at the end of the season, the Marseille board’s top choice is the 51-year-old Portuguese coach, whose contract with Lille OSC is nearing its end. Following Lille’s victory over Metz on Sunday (1-2), Fonseca addressed the ongoing speculation about his future, particularly linking him to Marseille.
Speaking to Prime Video, the Lille coach assured that he isn’t bothered by the rumors surrounding his future. “I’m entirely focused on these last four matches, now three. As I always say, the most important thing now is the team, the players, and what we can achieve until the end of the season. That’s the priority, and I’m fully focused here,” Fonseca stated.
The day before, during a press conference, Paulo Fonseca mentioned that he hadn’t made a decision yet: “There’s been a lot of talk about my future, how I’m dealing with the end of the season? Calmly and entirely focused on the last four matches. I’ve already said that my future isn’t important right now; Lille’s future is the priority along with the next four matches. I’m entirely focused on the game. Do I know what I’m going to do yet? No. I haven’t decided yet.”
