Erik ten Hag will be hoping for better Manchester United injury news ahead of his side's clash against Arsenal at Old Trafford after being without Bruno Fernandes against Crystal Palace

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag will be hopeful of having five of his Red Devils stars back in time for Arsenal.

The 13-times Premier League champions take on the Gunners on Sunday as they bid to recover from a 4-0 drubbing against Crystal Palace. United will need to earn an upset against Mikel Arteta's side if they want to put pressure on Chelsea and Newcastle in the race for sixth place.

Being able to welcome key players back would come as a boost for Ten Hag. The Dutch defender lamented the club's injury situation ahead of defeat to the Eagles.

"For over 10 years I am managing, I never had this experience," he said. "So huge, so many injury issues, so I trust all my experience, it can happen once in 10 years.

"Hopefully now I have to wait another 10 to have so many injuries to deal with."

A return possibly more anticipated than any other is that of Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese midfielder missed the loss to Crystal Palace, but was 'fighting' to be available for the clash. Six days on, Ten Hag will want his captain on the field at Old Trafford.

Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez are both already back on the training pitch and their Dutch manager is confident they will be available before the end of the season. Both are deemed to have been progressing well and should move into team training in their bid to prove their fitness.

United midfielder Scott McTominay was ruled out of the match at Selhurst Park with a knee injury. The Scotland international was due to start training on Saturday and will hope to make his return against the Gunners after being in contention last time out.

Marcus Rashford is still recovering after picking up a knock in the FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry City. The forward had not taken to the training field in time for United's preparations for Palace but such are the club's injuries, Rashford could quickly come back into contention.

Anthony Martial however has already made his return to training and could yet feature before the end of the season. The Frenchman could make his final appearance for the club with his contract set to expire.
