Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has heaped praise on a manager Manchester United are looking to appoint at Old Trafford this summer.

The Red Devils could undergo some big changes in the coming months. Sir Jim Ratcliffe is desperate to get his side back to the top, and that revolution has already begun.

All eyes will be on new signings once this season comes to a close, but Erik ten Hag’s future as Manchester United’s manager is far from certain.

The Dutchman has come under enormous criticism for some of his decisions this season, and it looks like his side will miss out on Champions League qualification now.

INEOS could decide to part ways with Ten Hag at the end of this campaign, and several names have been linked with the Manchester United job already.

Arsenal’s Arteta appears to be a big fan of one of them.

Mikel Arteta delivers honest verdict on Manchester United managerial target Gary O’Neil

Gary O’Neil‘s rise in management over the last year has been sensational.

MORE MANCHESTER UNITED STORIES

The 40-year-old did a magnificent job at Bournemouth last season and saved them from relegation. He then moved to Wolves, and he has been brilliant there as well.

O’Neil’s fantastic work has not gone unnoticed.

It has been reported that Manchester United are eyeing O’Neil for this summer as they are looking to build a new coaching structure led by a head coach.

O’Neil, who Gary Neville named as his manager of the season last term, would really be an interesting choice, and Mikel Arteta‘s opinion of him could further convince the decision-makers at Old Trafford to appoint him as their next manager.

The Arsenal boss, who is already among the best managers in the world, heaped praise on the ‘unbelievable’ work O’Neil has done at Wolves since taking charge of the club.

He said about the Wolves boss, as per Arsenal.com: “Unbelievable, so good.

“And you can tell how well they are coached, the spirit of the team, the difficulty that they create against every opponent, really good side and it will be really tough tomorrow (Saturday).

“We have prepared really good in the last two days, we had a great training session today.”

Gary Neville delivers verdict on Gary O’Neil at Manchester United

Manchester United’s decision-making since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club has not been great, has it?

They have appointed plenty of managers over the years, but none of them have even come close to getting the Red Devils back to the top.

There was a lot of excitement around Erik ten Hag when he was given the job, and the Dutchman made a few brave decisions as well.

However, after just 21 wins in 44 games in all competitions this season, it has to be said that things have not worked out for him as well as he would’ve liked at Old Trafford.

Manchester United would not be wrong to sack Ten Hag and go in a different direction this summer, and Gary O’Neil, as a head coach, would be a very interesting option.

However, Gary Neville just doesn’t seem keen on O’Neil or any other English manager that his old side have been linked with.

He said last month: ” Even Gareth (Southgate), as well as he has done with England, I have not seen the fit between him and Man United. I had never seen the fit between Graham Potter and Man United, that’s been a strong rumour.

“I don’t see the fit between Gary O’Neil and Man United. Instinctively, as a fan of a club, you feel it or you don’t, it’s not a feeling I’ve had. I’ve not had a feeling that, that (person) feels like a United manager.”
