Former Chelsea striker Carlton Cole has slammed Mauricio Pochettino for failing to reprimand Noni Madueke on the touchline following his involvement in the penalty row with Cole Palmer.

Chelsea sealed an impressive 6-0 victory over Everton at Stamford Bridge on Monday evening but the win was overshadowed by another argument over who should take a penalty.

Madueke and Nicolas Jackson were at the centre of spat before the ball was eventually handed to Palmer for him to score his fourth of the game.

Madueke was substituted shortly after the incident and Cole believes Pochettino should have sent the winger straight down the tunnel for causing the on-field rift between his teammates.

‘It just shows you they’ve got petulant kids in that dressing room, they’re not on the same page are they?’ Cole told talkSPORT.

‘When you went out before a game you’d see on the whiteboard who was on set-pieces, it’s clear as day.’

When it was suggested that Pochettino may not have done that, Cole added: ‘He’s [Pochettino] not a good organiser then.

‘It doesn’t matter what the score it, is doesn’t say on the board if you get a hat-trick you pass it on to the next man. It doesn’t work like that. If you’re on set-pieces you are the set-piece taker, and if you’re on penalties you’re the penalty taker, there’s nothing that changes that.

‘It starts from Poch. If you were going to do that at a big club like Chelsea, that’s childish, that’s not anybody who is going to win anything for the club. Rule number one, you don’t do that, you show unity on the pitch.

‘Also, I didn’t like the reaction, Madueke was in there and he was trying to get the ball off Cole Palmer, so he’s instigated it really and then Jackson came over and he tried to snatch the ball out of his hands. Madueke has no reason to be in there.

‘The fact he got pulled off, not because of that, he [Pochettino] should have taken them both off just for a statement, and what does Poch do – he hugs him. I’d have said, ‘listen, go down the tunnel, I’ll see you after the game, I don’t want to talk to you, I don’t want to see you on the bench either, we need to address this and I’m starting from now’. Don’t show, ‘oh, don’t worry, mate, it’s all good, sit down and watch the rest of the game. No, get down the tunnel, I don’t want you see your face even because you instigated it and you’ve messed up how I look.’
