As well as Conor Gallagher, Tottenham are now considering a move to pinch another academy graduate from Chelsea.

TBR Football understand that Spurs are ready to make a move for the £50m England international this summer as the Blues find themselves needing to sell, in order to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Even if Conor Gallagher departs, Chelsea may need to sell another Cobham graduate – with Tottenham interested in securing his signature as well…

Tottenham want to sign Josh Acheampong from Chelsea

A story by Miguel Delaney of the Independent (Reading the Game newsletter – sign up needed) now claims that Tottenham want to sign Josh Acheampong from Chelsea this summer.

It is said that Newcastle are also keen on the 18-year-old, who made his Premier League debut in Chelsea’s recent 2-0 win over Spurs at Stamford Bridge.

Delaney writes that Acheampong – who can play anywhere in defence – is considered to be one of the most precocious English talents around right now.

For those unaware of the situation, selling academy players represents pure profit in terms of the Premier League’s PSR regulations, which means Todd Boehly will be more inclined to sell the likes of Gallagher and Acheampong this summer, rather than an imported player like Marc Cucurella, for example.

MORE TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR STORIES

This story would appear to have some legs, amid a report from The Athletic – which claims that Ange Postecoglou wants another defender to help Pedro Porro at Spurs.

Spurs could embarrass the Blues

If Postecoglou does end up taking both Gallagher and Acheampong from Mauricio Pochettino, and the pair fulfil their vast potential in white rather than blue, it would be pretty embarrassing for the Blues, especially given their bitter rivalry with Spurs.

Many Chelsea fans will presumably be desperate for this not to happen, although Boehly has created a situation where tough decisions will have to be made, after some very careless spending at Stamford Bridge.

ESPN state that Chelsea have spent €1.1bn (£946.3m) on signings under the American since the summer of 2022, on just 28 players.

There seems to be more on the way as well – sources have told TBR Football that Chelsea are eyeing an £80m double deal to sign Estevao Willian and Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras.

With Boehly showing no signs of slowing down on spending, we would highly expect Gallagher and Acheampong to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
