West Ham star Lucas Paqueta has responded to speculation that he could be set to move to Manchester City in the summer.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The Brazil international has been heavily linked with Manchester City, with reports even suggesting he has agreed personal terms on a move to Pep Guardiola's side. Paqueta was set to sign for Manchester City last summer but saw a big-money move break down due to an investigation into alleged betting breaches.
WHAT PAQUETA SAID
He told ESPN: "I have to do my job here at West Ham. I have enormous respect for the club. I'm very happy here, if I say I'm not, I'd be lying. Of course it involves a lot of things that are happening off the field, but I remain focused on doing my best, finishing the season well. I started well, I hope to finish well. What they say (about Manchester City) is everything from last window. Now, it's time to finish the season and wait for what will happen."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
City ended up signing Matheus Nunes from Wolves last summer but could be in the market for an attacking midfielder if Bernardo Silva leaves. Guardiola has urged the Portugal international to stay amid speculation he wants to move to Barcelona.
WHAT NEXT FOR PAQUETA
Paqueta will finish the season at West Ham but it remains to be seen if he will stay with the club or move in the summer transfer window. The midfielder looks set for a busy summer as he will be hoping to be part of the Brazil squad for the 2024 Copa America.
