Following Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, and Ralf Rangnick, yet another coach has turned down the opportunity to join Bayern Munich next season. Roberto De Zerbi, the current manager of Brighton, is the latest to decline the offer.
But who will be the next coach of Bayern Munich? The question remains unanswered as the end of the season draws near. The Bavarian club still holds hopes of reaching the Champions League final and securing a title amidst a challenging season. However, with Thomas Tuchel’s imminent departure from the club in the coming weeks, his replacement remains elusive. The Bavarians face successive refusals, the latest being from Roberto De Zerbi, Brighton’s coach.
Since February, when Thomas Tuchel officially announced his departure at the end of the season, Bayern Munich have been actively seeking his successor. Yet, their efforts have been in vain. Each approached coach has ultimately declined the Bavarian offer. Xabi Alonso, for instance, opted to remain at Bayer Leverkusen, with aspirations of succeeding Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid. Similarly, Julian Nagelsmann was confirmed to continue leading the German national team. Recently, Ralf Rangnick turned down Bayern’s proposal to focus on his role as the Austrian national team coach.
In recent days, Roberto De Zerbi has also rejected Bayern’s offer. The Italian coach, currently at Brighton, confirmed his intention to stay with the Seagulls next season in an interview with Sky Sports. “I would like to stay at Brighton because I love my players. I love this city, my club, and my supporters. I said it when I met the fans. If I am happy, there is no club that can make me change teams. But I always want to keep my passion,” he explained. Thus, Bayern must now explore other options.
