Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has now issued a very honest verdict on his captain Heung-min Son.

The north London club now look desperate for the season to end after their latest defeat on the road to Chelsea.

It has been a rough few weeks for Ange Postecoglou‘s side who go into their game against Liverpool on Sunday without a point from their last three.

Any hope of a Champions League spot has now vanished with Germany taking the final coefficient place in the new format of the elite European competition.

The past three games for Tottenham have shown just how far the team are off competing among the best in Europe, though.

One player who has completely fallen out of form is Heung-min Son who had been in fine form the majority of the season.

He struggled again on Thursday night and Postecoglou has opened up on why he thinks Son could be suffering.

Ange Postecoglou comments on whether Heung-min Son could be dropped vs Liverpool

Son leads the Tottenham goal scoring tally this season with a return of 16 in the Premier League.

The South Korean has also been able to return an impressive nine assists in the league alone.

It has been a seriously impressive campaign for the 31-year-old, but his form has seriously dried up in recent weeks with just one goal in his last five games.

Having only scored one goal in his last five games with his penalty against Arsenal on the weekend, it is apparent the South Korean is struggling.

The 31-year-old has had a lot of football to play this season in various parts of the world with his participation in the Asian Cup back in January.

Speaking during his press conference on Friday morning from Hotspur Way, Postecoglou has spoken about his captain’s spot in the side.

When asked about whether Son could be rested on the weekend, Postecoglou said: “Yeah, look it’s been a big challenge for Sonny this year on a lot of fronts. Not just the game, but the leadership also.

“It’s only natural there would be some point where and again he’s got to embrace this challenge because it’s not going to change.”

Should Tottenham drop Heung-min Son for the game against Liverpool?

In a word, no. The only reason why Tottenham should even consider benching Son is if they feel he is at risk of injuring himself through fatigue.

The defeat to Chelsea was a disappointing one and there is no doubt Son was nowhere near his best on the night.

Statistics via SofaScore.

But who would Tottenham replace Son with if they were to drop him? A Dejan Kulusevski who is also well out of form? A Brennan Johnson who is struggling to find consistency?

Of course, Son is in a poor run of form currently, but there is no need to overreact over a player who has given so much to the club this season.
