Arsenal transfer news as Joshua Kimmich continues to be linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium
Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich would join Arsenal in the summer if he was guaranteed to start in Mikel Arteta's side, according to former defender Mikael Silvestre.
The versatile 29-year-old has been linked with a move away from Bayern ahead of the summer transfer window. Kimmich has one year left on his current deal at the Allianz Arena, leading to suggestions that he could leave the club.
Arsenal have been said to be one of the clubs monitoring the Germany international's situation at Bayern. Capable of playing as an inverted full-back as well as in midfield, Kimmich could be a perfect candidate to boost Mikel Arteta's side.
Kimmich started at right-back in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal last week and will be looking to knock the Gunners out of the competition on Wednesday in the return leg.
Arteta has become renowned for recruiting players capable of playing in a number of positions with Kai Havertz, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus all perfect examples. This summer is expected to follow a similar pattern ahead of the 2024/25 season.
However, Silvestre has claimed that Arsenal must be able to provide Kimmich with a promise on his game time if they are to convince him to move from the Bundesliga to the Premier League.
Speaking to bettingexpert.com, he said: “He's been an established top player for Bayern since he was young and he’s a top professional. He would play at Arsenal but if you bring him in you need to make sure he plays.”
Arsenal currently have Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu as their options at right-back, with the former becoming Arteta's preferred choice. However, Kimmich's arrival could see another tweak in the Spaniard's flexible system next season.
