Premier League giants Manchester City and Arsenal could reportedly activate Bruno Guimaraes's £100million release clause in just five weeks' time. The Newcastle United midfielder, who has also caught the eye of Paris Saint-Germain, could be set for a sensational summer exit.

To comply with profit and sustainability regulations, the Magpies might have to part ways with one of their star players at the end of the season, and Brazilian ace Guimaraes is among the club's most prized assets. Since his move from Lyon in January 2022, the 26-year-old has been showered with praise. He was the first high-profile signing of the Saudi-led era at St James' Park.

Guimaraes is tipped to draw attention in the upcoming summer transfer window, however his price could be a stumbling block. Fabrizio Romano reports that the £100m release clause will kick in during the last week of May, reports the Express.

This clause will reportedly stay active throughout June, giving interested clubs just over a month to seal the deal. After this period, Newcastle will regain full control over Guimaraes's future as the release clause will no longer be valid from July onwards.

With a contract at Newcastle running until 2028, the club holds significant power in any negotiations with potential suitors. Both Man City and Arsenal are said to be keen, along with French champions PSG.

Eddie Howe, the Newcastle manager, is keen to retain star player Bruno Guimaraes but acknowledges the challenge ahead, especially with the possibility of needing to agree to a transfer. Earlier in the month, Howe expressed his admiration for the player: "Players like Bruno, they are not around every corner. They are very rare. Bruno should be appreciated for everything he brings."

Howe's commitment to keeping Guimaraes at St. James' Park is clear, as he stated, "My intention would be to keep Bruno at the club for as long as we possibly can. I can never make guarantees though, that would be absolutely foolish of me. We have been in football long enough to know you don't know what is going to happen tomorrow. He is an integral part of the team and playing very well."

Before the Magpies' 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace, Howe once again spoke highly of Guimaraes, particularly noting his improved discipline which has seen him avoid suspension despite accumulating nine yellow cards over seven matches: "He is always setting new goals for himself. Bruno is very motivated to help the team."
