In a cold Emirates Stadium, Arsenal attempted to create a spark against AS Monaco in the hope of earning three more points for their Champions League campaign.

The Gunners had plenty of chances in the first half as Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus put a trio of chances down.

While they certainly could’ve had more, Arsenal did open the scoring in the 33rd minute, courtesy of Bukayo Saka.

It all started, however, with a cutting pass by Myles Lewis-Skelly to pick out Martinelli, setting everything up at the Emirates Stadium.

Gabriel Martinelli celebrates with Myles Lewis-Skelly during Arsenal vs Monaco

Arsenal star Martinelli helped set up the opening goal for the side, but it was Lewis-Skelly who truly ripped through Monaco with the pass before the assist.

It was an impressive moment for the Hale End academy graduate, who firmly stamped his mark by breaking the lines.

That all came in Lewis-Skelly’s first Champions League start, which may well cement his place in the team for the weeks ahead.

He was certainly the centre of the love from Arsenal players after the goal, particularly his teammate Martinelli.

The Brazilian ran over to the 18-year-old immediately, giving him a hug and appreciating the help he gave for the goal.

It speaks volumes for the teamwork in the group, with players willing to celebrate the achievements and the support of their fellow players.

Should Myles Lewis-Skelly start for Arsenal against Everton?

After an impressive hour on the pitch once again, Lewis-Skelly was substituted to bring an end to his first start in the Champions League.

While it’s a moment he will remember and cherish forever, there isn’t much time for him to dwell on those minutes he gained.

The fixture schedule is thick and fast for Arsenal, with attention turning back to the Premier League on Saturday against Everton.

With those injury issues at the back and an impressive performance already in his locker, it may well be the game to hand another start to Lewis-Skelly.

The youngster has shown the type of incisive passing that is needed to break down a low-block, something they will have to navigate against the Toffees.

That said, it remains to be seen if Arteta will default back to a pairing of Thomas Partey and Jurrien Timber at full-back.
