Bruno Fernandes responds to being put on Man Utd's 'transfer list' and admits exit dilemma

Manchester United are set for a busy summer in the transfer market as they overhaul their squad and Bruno Fernandes perhaps did not ease fears he could be sold before next season

Bruno Fernandes has been a star of Manchester United's season

Bruno Fernandes has refused to think about a possible Manchester United departure until after Euro 2024.

The midfielder will hope to find success with Portugal in this summer's tournament in Germany after a disappointing campaign with United. The Red Devils can still win the FA Cup, though local rivals Manchester City stand in their way, but the club are already set to finish outside the top four in the Premier League.

Fernandes has been a rare bright spark of United's season and has produced 15 goals and 11 assists in 2023/24. The 29-year-old remains under contract until 2026, with an option for a further year in his deal.

United are set for a high-turnover transfer window this summer as they look to recover under the new stewardship of co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The INEOS chief has started to put in place a new recruitment team in place that will not see expensive flops signed.

Fernandes is an easy success the old hierarchy can point to, but that has not stopped the former Sporting star being asked to consider his future. Currently, he expects to remain at the club.

"I’m not thinking about other things at the moment. Obviously, it doesn’t just depend on me, does it?" he told DAZN Portugal.

"A player always has to want to be here, but at the same time, you have to want him to stay. At the moment, I feel there’s that on both sides."

"So, if you want me to be very honest," he ominously added, "If I have to think about not continuing in the Premier League, it won’t be until after the Euros because nothing will be able to take my focus away from the FA Cup final and the Euros, as there’s nothing more important than that at the moment."

United are set to operate with flexibility this summer, with few players guaranteed to remain at Old Trafford. Working under more rigid budgets, the club are said to be willing to listen to offers for most players, with only Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho not up for discussion, according to reports.

Fernandes was not on a list of 12 players said to be on the chopping block but it appears his future is not entirely secure despite being a pivotal player for the side. The star remains one of the players more likely to remain in the north west, while other senior figures depart however.
