Manchester City will reportedly only accept £50m to sell one of their star players this summer.
Previous transfer windows have seen some big-name players leave the Manchester club for significant transfer fees such as Riyad Mahrez, Cole Palmer and Aymeric Laporte to name a few.
Before that, the Citizens also cashed in on Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Now though, with the next summer transfer window around the corner, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding City’s stance on another big player the club could find themselves getting a significant amount of money for.
A recent report from ESPN had this to say on the matter.
It said: “Sources have told ESPN that City will not accept a reduced fee for Bernardo Silva this summer and will only let the midfielder leave if the £50m release clause in his contract is met.”
The report then added that “the 29-year-old’s deal runs until 2026 but a source has told ESPN that he is keen to take on a new challenge after seven years at the Etihad Stadium.”
After being linked with a move away from the Manchester club last summer, the midfielder ultimately ended up staying at City and even signed a contract extension until 2026.
During his time with the Blues, Silva has made 351 appearances across all competitions, finding the back of the net 66 times and delivering 62 assists along the way.
Having featured in 45 games for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions this season, this shows just how important the £300k-a-week midfielder is for City.
It also shows how much of a miss he’d be for the Citizens if a club were to trigger his £50m release clause this summer and take him away from the Etihad.
