Bruno Guimaraes has been so good for Newcastle United that now everybody wishes they had him.

The 26-year-old has been immense since his £40million move from Lyon to Newcastle United, becoming one of the Magpies’ most expensive signings ever as they went in search of Premier League survival.

Bruno Guimaraes took a risk in joining Newcastle when he did, but it has proven to be a brilliant decision. The Brazil international has established himself as one of the Premier League’s top midfielders, and a player who would not look out of place in most teams.

He has been outstanding this season, and was particularly brilliant in the Champions League. He proved that he belongs on that stage, which is actually a problem for Newcastle right now.

Bruno Guimaraes should be in the Champions League

That is because for all that Bruno is Champions League quality, it does not look like he will be a Champions League player next season.

Eddie Howe‘s side are certainly not going to qualify, with Newcastle currently sixth in the Premier League with six games to go. Now that the Premier League is not getting a fifth slot in next season’s Champions League, there is basically no way that the Magpies will be in the competition again.

But while Newcastle will not, there is a chance that Bruno could.

Bruno Guimaraes knows about interest in him this summer

That is because he is attracting interest from top clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, all of which are more than aware that he has a £100million release clause in his contract.

And, according to the Telegraph, Bruno is well aware of interest in his services from two Premier League clubs. They report that Bruno knows that Arsenal and Manchester City are looking closely at him.

The Telegraph add that both clubs are considering summer moves for Bruno, although neither have formalised their interest.

Man City move could be very appealing to Bruno

While there is yet to be a formal approach, Bruno must be honoured by the fact that Manchester City want to sign him.

It is well documented that Pep Guardiola is a big fan, with the Man City manager previously speaking very highly of the Brazilian midfielder.

And now Bruno could potentially have the chance to work with Guardiola, while he would also have the opportunity to play in the Champions League regularly.

He could get that at Arsenal too, but the chance to play for Man City is probably more appealing – especially given the fact that they are also interested in Lucas Paqueta. Bruno and Paqueta are close friends and were teammates at Lyon, and the former has often spoke about wishing the latter played for Newcastle.

Now they could be reunited at the Etihad, unless it is a case of Man City wanting to sign one or the other rather than both.

Newcastle will hope he stays put

Despite the interest, Newcastle will be eager to retain Bruno for at least one more year.

That is what Toon officials are hoping for, while their position has been boosted by the number 39 buying a new house in the area. That is surely not something you would do if you were planning to move in a few months…

Obviously, Newcastle want to keep Bruno, but that £100million release clause is hanging over his head. If Man City or Arsenal activate it, we might be forced to wave goodbye to a modern day club legend.

Hopefully it does not come to that, and Bruno can continue to build on the legacy he has already created at St James’ Park.
