Chelsea Women are back in action when they play Barcelona in the UEFA Women's Champions League

Emma Hayes will lead Chelsea into a Champions League semi-final first leg tie as she looks for European glory in her final season.

The clash will be a rematch of last season’s thrilling semi-final encounter which Barca won 2-1 on aggregate before going on to lift the trophy. The Champions League remains the elusive prize during Hayes' time in charge despite a period of impressive domestic success.

With Hayes set to depart this summer, this season's tournament now represents her final opportunity to claim the prestigious title with the Blues. Chelsea will have to overcome the Spanish side, who are favourites, and banish the memory of last year's semi-final defeat.

Barcelona were victorious over Chelsea after a narrow 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge which was followed by a tense 1-1 draw at Camp Nou. The Spanish side then proceeded to clinch the European Cup by defeating Wolfsburg in the final, and now they're aiming for a remarkable third Champions League triumph in four seasons.

In what is another aspect of added spice to this tie, Barcelona won the first of those Champions League trophies against Chelsea in the 2021 final, where they won 4-0 to deny the Blues and Hayes. Only four teams now remain in what is set to be a memorable semi-finals in the UEFA Women's Champions League, Chelsea, Barcelona, Olympique Lyonnais and Paris Saint-Germain.

Regardless of what the outcome is, Hayes can boast a stunning six Women's Super League titles, five FA Cups and two League Cups. However, Hayes will be eyeing this trophy like never before and, in another twist, her Barcelona counterpart Jonatan Giraldez is also set to leave his post at the end of the season and inevitably will also want to bow out on a high.
