Key West Ham ace makes worrying admission after Liverpool draw – ‘I don’t feel my legs anymore’

West Ham United earned a hard fought point against Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Unfortunately for West Ham though, the draw against Liverpool was not enough to push us inside the top seven of the Premier League table.

Hammers boss David Moyes desperately needed a win against the Reds, if he was to have any chance whatsoever of staying at the London Stadium beyond the end of this season.

The performance against Liverpool actually wasn’t bad at all. However, some really poor defending proved to be our Achilles heel yet again.

I feel like we’ve massively let what was once a really promising season peter out into nothing. That’s on Moyes and his players.

One player has been hugely positive for us this term though. That said, he didn’t cover himself in glory yesterday…

West Ham ace makes worrying admission after Liverpool draw

It’s such a shame that we’ll likely end up with no European football next season.

Things could have been so different, but that’s a debate for another day. Our attention right now turns to one of our key players who seems to suffer more niggling little injuries than most…

Alphonse Areola should have saved Andy Robertson’s equaliser for Liverpool, and the goalkeeper was extremely lucky that referee Anthony Taylor stopped play when he carelessly threw the ball down in front of him and allowed Cody Gakpo the chance to roll the ball into an empty net.

And now the Frenchman has made an extremely worrying admission as far as I’m concerned.

The Frenchman suggested that he was physically shot after the game on Saturday, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“It feels great to be back. Honestly I don’t feel my legs anymore, but I’ll recover well, get straight in the ice bath and be back and ready for the next game.”

Now, Areola finished the game, so his injury couldn’t have been too serious. However, I am concerned that a goalkeeper, who’s only 31 by the way, was feeling it in his legs that much after 90 minutes.

I also have to point out that the Frenchman has left the field injured during games more than any other goalkeeper I can remember.

On two separate occasions in the Premier League this season, Areola has been forced off at half-time through injury. He’s missed seven league games though injury as well this term (Transfermarkt).

And after the West Ham ace’s admission following the 2-2 draw with Liverpool, perhaps his overall fitness is something that needs to be looked at more closely by the medical team.
