Vinicius Jr defends Nico Williams from racist abuse

Vinicius Jr. came out on Wednesday morning to show his public support for Nico Williams. During Atletico's win over Athletic Club, the Spanish winger suffered racist abuse from a section of the stands as he proceeded to take a corner kick, something that has provoked outrage from players, fans, clubs and institutions.

Through the social network 'X', formerly known as Twitter, the Real Madrid player made his anger known by questioning "until when, La Liga?", while quoting the official profile of the championship. He accompanied it with a "Nicoooo" along with icons of a raised fist, a symbol of the fight against racism.

Less than a month ago, the Brazilian also openly supported Sevilla players Marcos Acuna and Quique Sanchez Flores and Rayo Majadahonda goalkeeper Cheikh Sarr, who were insulted from the stands for their origin, ethnicity and race respectively. "We will only have victory when the racists leave the stadiums and go straight to jail, the place they deserve," he said at the time.

Nico Williams said there had been "few", but he did receive shouts from a fan imitating a monkey during the match at the Cívitas Metropolitano. Fortunately, referee Martinez Munuera and his assistant also heard it and were able to record it in the minutes. The anti-racism protocol was applied and the match was stopped until the fans were warned over the public address system

La Liga, which condemned the incident, has already announced that it will report the incident to the Madrid hate crime prosecutor's office. In addition, the agency 'EFE' assures that the police have already identified the person responsible for the incident.
