England fans were left fuming when a killjoy German cop snatched their ball during a kickabout before the Three Lions' semi-final clash tonight.
The footy fanatics were having a blast with a £25 Euro 2024 replica ball ahead of the big game against the Netherlands. The showdown comes on the heels of England's nail-biting penalty shootout victory over Switzerland last week and some fans have already hit out at Southgate's 'weird' selection for the big match.
Brits have swarmed into Germany, flocking to a lively square packed with bars just a 10-minute drive from BVB Stadion Dortmund, where the game kicks off at 8pm. But those hoping to catch Gareth Southgate's eye with their footy skills were left little deflated thanks for the German cops.
A killjoy cop confiscated their ball as they had a friendly kickabout in the sun. But a now-viral video taken by a fan taking shade from the sun shows football fans getting the last laugh. They are heard chanting: "We want our ball," over and over again at the red-faced cops. The 60-second video was recorded at the Napoli bar and restaurant in the heart of the square yesterday as fans poured into the city.
Earlier in the week, England supporters were slammed after targeting a German woman with dwarfism in one of their chants. In a video of the woman dancing in the street, a group of lads can be heard chanting "Dusseldwarf, Dusseldwarf, Dusseldwarfffff." Despite the awkwardness of the situation, the woman managed a smile and even joined in with the fans when one beckoned her to dance.
Many viewers criticised the disrespectful name-calling, with one branding it 'brutal'. Another sarcastically commented: "You're hard." However, others dismissed the complaints, simply labelling it 'banter'. "England fans don't miss with chants," said Liam Craven. Another agreed, stating: "English banter is unmatched."
Fans are now calling for an official bank holiday if England is successful in tonight's match against the Netherlands, so they can attend the final without having to book annual leave. Whoever wins tonight will play against Spain on July 14.
