Andy Murray trolls fellow tennis star over Arsenal's 5-0 win against Chelsea

The former world number one has been a long time admirer of the Gunners, who are aiming to win their first Premier League title in 20 years this season.

Andy Murray took to social media to mock friend and fellow tennis star Liam Broady following Arsenal's 5-0 demolition of Chelsea on Tuesday night.

Three-time Grand Slam winner Murray grew up supporting local team Hibernian, but also became a fan of the Gooners around the time of their stunning Premier League Invincible winning season in 2004/05. And after Mikel Arteta's side's resounding victory at the Emirates that has moved them back to the top of the Premier League table with four games remaining, Murray made a jest at the expense of Blues fan Broady, who is currently ranked at 148 in the men's singles.

During the game, Broady, 30, took to X to share his dismay at his team's performance, tweeting: "Can’t believe how bad Chelsea are tonight? What is going on?." Murray then poked fun at Broady early on Wednesday morning and also included a screenshot from a previous post on Instagram by the tennis pro, who had included a link for fans to read his thoughts on a certain subject.

Former world number one and two-time Olympic gold medalist Murray then linked the screenshot to Broady's question on the state of Chelsea's display against Arsenal, writing: "Great thought mate. I’m sure people will come flooding to your page for this sort of insight", which was also accompanied by laughing and clapping emojis.

Broady, who reached the third round of Wimbledon last year, playfully went along with the joke, and responded: "You're such a div man leave me alone", followed by two laughing emojis.

A succession of injuries and poor form have left Murray - who turns 37 next month - in a difficult position to try and climb back up the world rankings. The Dunblane-born star sparked fears that he would be forced into instant retirement after suffering an ankle injury in his defeat at the Miami Open in March, but appears to be gearing up a for a comeback after being snapped on the practice court last week.
