Tony Cascarino has predicted whether Aston Villa will finish above Tottenham Hotspur in fourth place this season.

Unai Emery‘s side have enjoyed a remarkable season in the Premier League and currently reside in fourth place.

The Villans have aspirations of playing Champions League football next term and are seven points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who have a game in hand.

They need six points from their remaining three games to seal it, with clashes against Brighton and Hove Albion, Liverpool and Crystal Palace to ensue.

With that said, former Villa man Cascarino has just issued his top-four prediction.

Tony Cascarino makes top-four prediction

Cascarino, on talkSPORT’s (8:40am) Sunday morning show, was asked if he remains confident that Villa will finish ahead of Spurs in fourth.

“Yeah, absolutely. It is even better now than it was in November. Villa were behind Tottenham. Villa are in a great place, and it will be interesting to see what happens this summer as well,” the 61-year-old said.

“Again, it’s a bit like I mentioned with Spurs about their recruitment. It was good last year going into this summer. Villa were likewise. Villa, if they get it right again and add one or two players to the group they have already got, it will be a really good team again next year.”

Emery’s men aren’t in scintillating form by any means, but they are carrying much more momentum than Tottenham, who have lost three straight games on the bounce, including a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea last time out.

Their Champions League aspirations are in their own hands.

Aston Villa next six points

Six points will be enough to secure Champions League football at Villa Park next season.

Spurs have four games left and can achieve a maximum points tally of 72, so with the West Midlanders currently lying on 67, five points could possibly be enough also, depending on goal difference.

Villa have a much superior goal difference with 21 compared to Spurs’ 13, so perhaps a win and two draws would be sufficient.

They are in action this afternoon, playing away to 13th-placed Brighton, who are winless in their last six games.
