Romano Predicts “Very Busy” Summer For United As He Tips Up To 6 Players (Worth A Combined £242M) To Leave

Manchester United are set for a mass clearout this summer, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

INEOS will be taking charge of their first transfer window, with technical director Jason Wilcox and new chief executive Omar Berrada set to take responsibility for recruitment. Speaking to GiveMeSport. Romano said there is likely to be “a lot of movement” at Old Trafford over the coming months:

“I expect them to be very busy. Honestly, a number at the moment, I have absolutely no idea because it depends on the outgoings. We know how important it will be to clarify the situations of [Mason] Greenwood, [Jadon] Sancho and many players who are still at the club.”

“[Anthony] Martial is leaving, [Raphael] Varane at the moment is not being offered a new deal, but we have to see what happens with [Christian] Eriksen, Casemiro – there are many situations to discuss. This is why at the moment, it is difficult to see and to mention how many signings United will do. But I think there will be a lot of movement, so I expect them to be very, very busy in terms of outgoing and incomings.”

£242m worth of talent could be set to leave United

The likes of Jadon Sancho (£73m), Casemiro (£70m), Anthony Martial (£58m) and Raphael Varane (£41m) all cost the club large sums and it remains to be seen how much money the Red Devils can get back on their investment if they are offloaded this summer.

Mason Greenwood (a youth academy product) and Christian Eriksen (a free transfer) didn’t cost a penny but some funds could be raised if they are sold when the transfer window opens.

The club’s transfer budget

It was reported last week that INEOS will only be able to sanction a £100m net spend due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.

However, if United can raise money from the sale of the six players mentioned above, it could allow for more signings to be made.
