Patrice Motsepe's Mamelodi Sundowns demand apology and over R8 million from Pitso Mosimane

The former Brazilians coach has been dragged to court by the Tshwane giants who are keen on recovering part of the R8,6 million in agent fees.

  • Mosimane was Downs coach between 2012 and 2020
  • The former SuperSport coach left to join Al Ahly
  • But his departure sparked a legal battle between him and Downs

WHAT HAPPENED?

Pitso Mosimane

Mamelodi Sundowns Director Dr Rejoice Simelane says Pitso Mosimane should apologise for bringing the club's name into disrepute.

Dr Simelane demanded this while appearing before the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg as Sundowns are trying to recover part of the R8,6 million in agent fees paid to Mosimane and his representatives when he renewed his contract at the club at the end of the 2019/2020 season.

But a few months later, he left the club for Al Ahly, leaving Masandawana keen on their money.

WHAT WAS SAID

“There were people within the club that didn’t want me to win the league title,” Mosimane is reported to have said at the time as per SABC Sport.

But Dr Simelane hit back, saying Sundowns are now waiting for an apology from their former coach.

“The club wants the coach to withdraw his comments that were made to the media after he won the 2019/2020 league title," he said.

AND WHAT MORE?

Mosimane's lawyer Tembeka Ngcukaitobi disclosed that the relationship between the coach and Sundowns had become strained.

“In that meeting of 29 September 2020, Mr Mosimane says that he told the president in that meeting that the situation at Sundowns, the working relations had become intolerable," Ngcukaitobi said.

“And that if the president doesn’t want to release them to join Al Ahly, they will abide his decision, but they would rather be on the streets.”

The latest court process comes as Mosimane is experiencing what could be the worst episode of his coaching career.

He is battling to help Abha Club avoid relegation from the Saudi Pro League.

His team remains stuck on position 17 in the 18-team league and they suffered a 4-0 defeat by equally struggling Al Akhdoud last weekend.

That means they conceded 18 goals in their last four league matches while scoring just once.

WHAT NEXT FOR MOSIMANE?

Karim Benzema Ittihad 2024

As the court proceedings are ongoing, Mosimane continues to fight against relegation with Abha.

On Friday, they host Al Ittihad who have stars like Karim Benzema, N'golo Kante and Fabinho on their books.
