Troy Deeney has once again included Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak in his team of the week.
This comes after Alexander Isak netted a brace in Newcastle United’s 3-0 win over Wolves on Wednesday night.
His two goals mean that he now has 16 goals in his last 16 games. It also means that Isak has scored in eight consecutive Premier League games, which is the most ever for a Newcastle United player. The Premier League record belongs to Jamie Vardy, who scored in 11 consecutive games for Leicester City.
Isak also got an assist on Wednesday night, setting up Anthony Gordon for the Magpies’ third goal of the night. It was a smart finish, with Gordon calling Isak ‘unselfish’ for teeing him up.
It was another blistering performance from Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever, and one that has resulted in adulation from Troy Deeney.
Following the midweek Premier League fixtures, Deeney has announced his team of the week for BBC Sport.
It includes Alexander Isak, who is joined by Toon teammate Sandro Tonali.
On Isak, Deeney said: “We may as well just keep him in for the next six weeks. Mr Isak, the best striker on the planet currently. He does everything – scores two goals, creates an assist and then goes and sits down after 70 minutes because it is job done. We can keep talking about how good he is – he’s an obvious replacement for others, but while he’s at a flying Newcastle team why would he leave? They may end up – don’t say it too loud – creating a little title push.”

According to Deeney, Isak is the best striker on the planet, and is someone who would not want to leave Newcastle United because they are playing so well.
That is a bit of contrast to what Deeney said about Isak in December after his performance in Newcastle’s 4-0 win over Leicester City.
“Every time I watch him I keep thinking, how haven’t Arsenal signed him?” he said.
Now Deeney does not think Isak would leave Newcastle United. The penny might finally be starting to drop in the media, after relentless calls for him to leave St James’ Park and join a ‘big six’ club like Arsenal.
While they would all love to sign Isak, they cannot. He would simply cost too much money. Arsenal cannot afford Isak, with Newcastle’s chances of keeping him increasing.
They will increase even more if the Magpies qualify for the Champions League, which is a very real possibility. However, a title charge might be a stretch, even if pundits like Deeney want to include Newcastle United in the conversation.
