Why Erling Haaland was annoyed at Man City substitution as Pep Guardiola shares truth

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland was not happy when he came off after scoring four goals in the Premier League win over Wolves

Erling Haaland speaks to Pep Guardiola after being replaced during Manchester City's win against Wolves

Erling Haaland was annoyed at the lack of fouls he had been awarded in Manchester City's win over Wolves when replaced, according to Pep Guardiola.

Haaland produced a match-winning performance with four goals in a 5-1 win that take the Blues three points closer to retaining their Premier League title and becoming the first to win four in a row. Julian Alvarez added a late goal as City responded emphatically to Arsenal's lunchtime win over Bournemouth.

However, City's No.9 did not look happy when he was taken off in the final 10 minutes of the game. Guardiola exchanged words with his striker but Haaland was less than pleased as he made his way to the bench.

City's manager insisted Haaland was happy with how the game had gone but had been irked by what he saw as a lack of fouls given to him. Despite that frustration, Haaland was still able to complete a lap of honour around the Etihad to celebrate the win and returned to the dressing room in high spirits.

"There were a lot of long balls into the channels where he won the position and was being pulled by the opponent and it was never [given as] a foul," explained Guardiola. "When he's level with the shoulders I can understand but sometimes he won the position and was being pulled.

"He went down and sometimes it was no foul [given]. It happens every game a lot of times. He was just a bit frustrated for these actions but I can guarantee how happy he was today."
