A journalist with strong contacts at West Ham says a former Bayern Munich boss is also in the frame for the job after a visit.

It has been a rollercoaster few days at West Ham.

Hammers News was told back in February that there was only one way David Moyes would remain West Ham manager next season.

That being if the Hammers won the Europa League.

So it is no surprise that speculation suddenly ramped up over the manager’s future in the wake of the club’s quarter-final exit to German invincibles Bayer Leverkusen.

West Ham put in a valiant second leg attempt to turn the tie around. But they followed it up by losing 5-2 to Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Moyes said he was ’embarrassed’ to speak on behalf of his team and put his name to the performance.

The Scot also conceded there had been far too many of those types of displays from West Ham this season.

Ex Bayern boss Flick also in the frame for West Ham after visit?

A host of managers have been linked as potential successors to Moyes since the dismal defeat.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

Claims Julen Lopetegui was being lined up divided opinion among some West Ham fans.

Then came a bombshell yesterday that coveted young Sporting manager Ruben Amorim had flown to London for talks with West Ham.

Confirmed by a number of top sources, the Amorim talks sent Hammers fans into something of a frenzy.

But there has been claims he is still very much in the running to join Liverpool.

Amid the buzz over Amorim yesterday, another name emerged as a contender to replace Moyes.

A journalist says a former Bayern Munich boss is also in the frame for West Ham after a visit to the club.

The Sun reporter Jack Rosser used to cover West Ham for The Evening Standard.

And he claims ex Bayern boss Hansi Flick is also on West Ham’s shortlist having attended the London Stadium this season.

West Ham shortlist to replace Moyes becomes clearer

Rosser was writing about West Ham’s shortlist when he made the Flick claim.

He confirmed West Ham’s interest in Amorim and Lopetegui and added Flick’s name to a list that had also included Paulo Fonseca and Christophe Galtier.

“West Ham have admired Lille boss Paulo Fonseca in the past as well as former Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier,” Rosser said.

“Galtier was close to becoming Hammers boss a year ago but is now in charge of Qatar Stars League club Al-Duhail.

“Former Bayern Munich and Germany manager Hansi Flick has also attended a game at the London Stadium this season.

“No contracts have been formally offered to any potential managers at this stage.”

Flick was Bayern boss for two years between 2019 and 2021, winning every possible club trophy.

Flick’s contrasting fortunes

While managing Bayern Flick won the Bundesliga twice, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, German cup and Supercup.

That earned him the German national team job. But a poor reign over a transitional team saw him leave after a last 16 Euros exit to England in 2021 and a group stage exit the Qatar World Cup.

The alleged West Ham target became the first manager ever to be sacked by Germany after a 4-1 friendly defeat to Japan.

Flick has been out of work since last September.

Therefore West Ham would not have to pay any compensation for his services.

That, cynics might suggest, would make him a leading contender.

Flick is known as a very passionate manager.
