Feyenoord star spotted in Liverpool away end ahead of Arne Slot appointment

Liverpool could only draw with West Ham at the London Stadium. Arne Slot may have been watching from afar, but one of his Feyenoord stars was there in person.

With Arne Slot's appointment as Liverpool boss now expected to be a matter of time, brace yourselves for the transfer links. More than one Feyenoord player will be mentioned before the summer is out.

Of course, a raid on his old club is far from inevitable. Despite many links over the years, Jürgen Klopp never signed anybody from Borussia Dortmund.

Meanwhile, with Michael Edwards and incoming sporting director Richard Hughes set to take the lead on recruitment in Liverpool's new structure, it's unlikely that Slot will be given free rein to shop in the market he knows best. But Liverpool clearly likes the football Feyenoord is playing, or it would not be hiring Slot.

And it will also have watched the Eredivise side very closely in recent weeks and months. So it's completely plausible that a player or two could have caught the eye.

One of Slot's charges set tongues wagging with a social media post during Liverpool's draw at West Ham. Not only was 23-year-old defender Lutsharel Geertruida in attendance, he was in the away end (per SportBible), sparking rumors he could follow his manager from Feyenoord.

If Liverpool was indeed trying to sign Geertruida, arguably there would be a little more secrecy. But whether it's a sign or a mere coincidence, he does appear to tick a lot of the club's boxes.

In the right age range, Geertruida would address a problem position, bolstering the defensive ranks. He has spent most of his time recently at right-back, so any potential transfer might hint at a move infield for Trent Alexander-Arnold, but he has also amassed almost 100 senior games as a center-back. He has experience stepping into midfield as well.

Interestingly, he was linked to Real Madrid at the turn of the year, with Football Transfers claiming he was viewed as a cheaper alternative to Alexander-Arnold, another player interesting Los Blancos. That's another potential issue Slot will need to resolve, with Liverpool's existing right-back set to enter the final year of his contract.
