Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has delivered his verdict on Liverpool following the Reds’ shock defeat in the Merseyside derby this week.

Jurgen Klopp’s bid to win the Premier League title in his final season as the Liverpool manager was dealt a massive blow by Everton at Goodison Park.

The Reds missed a number of chances in front of goal and that cost them. Goals from Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin sealed a memorable win for Everton at home.

Manchester City were always the favourites to go all the way in this title race, and Liverpool’s defeat on Wednesday further increased their chances.

Guardiola has now had his say on what happened at Goodison Park.

Pep Guardiola makes Liverpool claim after they lost to Everton

Manchester City are just incredible at this stage of every season, aren’t they?

Pep Guardiola has built an incredible side, and irrespective of what happens in the seven months of the season, they come to life in the final two.

The champions took on Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex last night, and everyone expected it to be a tricky game for them.

However, they battered them 4-0 and have now leapfrogged Liverpool in the table despite playing a game fewer than Jurgen Klopp’s side.

After his side’s emphatic win, Guardiola had his say on Liverpool’s defeat at Everton this week.

The Manchester City boss claimed that the title race is by no means over as any of the three teams could still suffer shock defeats in the coming weeks.

Guardiola further showered praise on Liverpool and claimed that his appreciation for the Reds is still very, very high.

He said, as per Manchester Evening News: “Many things can happen. What happened to Liverpool dropping two games against Palace and Everton can happen to us and happen to Arsenal.

“Everton playing for their lives – like Forest. Maybe it was a real contender for us, my appreciation for Liverpool is higher than ever. You see the game they draw at Old Trafford, or yesterday, Pickford was exceptional.

“Against Palace, the chances they miss. Tell me the reason why? It’s football. I can give examples for my team too. It’s there.

“I know the character from Liverpool institution and team, they will fight until the end. Nobody is safe.”

Jurgen Klopp says only one thing can help Liverpool win the Premier League

Liverpool were the third favourites to win the Premier League title before their game against Everton, but their chances have reduced even more since.

Jurgen Klopp was not happy at all after the game and rightly so.

Liverpool looked nothing like their usual selves, and some players have really underperformed over the last few weeks. That’s why the Reds have dropped off.

Klopp was asked after the derby if his side can still win the Premier League. The German claimed that only one thing can make that happen – a crisis at both Arsenal and Manchester City.

He said, as per talkSPORT: “I can’t say now that we are still fully in it; we need a crisis at Man City and Arsenal and need to win football games because if they start losing all their games and we do what we did tonight nothing changes.

“We are not safe in the Champions League as well so we should just play better football.”
