It has been reported that Manchester City and Arsenal are interested in the same midfielder.

Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta might be struck by a feeling of déjà vu as the same was the case in the summer of 2023 when both clubs tried to sign Declan Rice.

At the time, it was often discussed that Rice’s acquisition could propel Arsenal from just contenders for the Premier League title to likelier winners this season.

However, Manchester City are just a point behind the Gunners in the league table while having played one game fewer than them.

Even Premier League players like Yves Bissouma have also predicted the Sky Blues to go on to win the title with six games left in the season.

As a result, some might claim that Declan Rice’s decision to sign for Arsenal instead of City has not had much of an impact in terms of the title race.

City and Arsenal going head-to-head to sign £100 million midfielder

That is, of course, if Manchester City manage to win the title as it is perhaps still too early to call which team goes on and reigns supreme.

It was only last summer when Arsenal could think of competing with City for the same player for several years.

Considering the Gunners’ steep decline over the years and City’s ascent, it was natural that most players would have preferred a move to the Etihad Stadium.

However, in all fairness to Arsenal, they have become a lot more ambitious in the transfer window in recent years, while Mikel Arteta has made them an incredible team.

As a result, their presence is a threat to City if both clubs are targeting the same player.

According to The Telegraph, Manchester City and Arsenal are both interested in signing Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.

The Brazilian, who has a release clause worth £100 million, as mentioned in the report is believed to be aware of both clubs’ interest in his signature.

In March, it was claimed that City were interested in the 26-year-old as they aimed to boost their midfield.

Mikel Arteta’s side are targeting the former Lyon midfielder, as per The Telegraph due to the uncertain futures of Thomas Partey and Jorginho.

Bruno Guimaraes should pick Manchester City over Mikel Arteta’s side

Ultimately, due to how similar the styles of play Manchester City and Arsenal have, Bruno Guimaraes would perhaps utilised by both sets of managers similarly; as a number six and a number eight.

However, with how successful City have been for years on end, especially in comparison to the North London side, Guimaraes should view a transfer to Manchester as a no-brainer, in our view.

Especially considering that the treble-winners would perhaps be favourites for the league title and the Champions League next season.

The same cannot be said about Arsenal’s prospects in both competitions yet.

In addition, the chance to learn from Pep Guardiola is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that a midfielder should perhaps never refuse, especially when they have Bruno Guimaraes’ level of talent.

Whether Bruno Guimaraes even signs for either Manchester City or Arsenal if he joins another Premier League club will be interesting to see or if his heart lies in Newcastle.
