Despite Jürgen Klopp's best attempts to play it down, his run-in with Mohamed Salah continues to dominate the headlines. Two icons of Liverpool's recent history, they clashed on the sidelines against West Ham just as the Egyptian was about to be substituted on.

We've since looked at footage from multiple angles, with one appearing to show that Salah's reluctance to accept a handshake from Klopp started the problem. Benched for the second time in three games, the Liverpool talisman was no doubt nursing plenty of frustration.

Even so, there's no justifying his behavior, especially not with Klopp now into his final three games as Liverpool boss. Ending on a sour note would not sit right at all.

Salah arguably made things worse by saying there would be 'fire' if he spoke to journalists in the mixed zone. He may well have been following Klopp's lead in trying to diffuse the situation by declining questions, but his phrasing had the opposite effect.

Before he had even reached the tunnel, however, Salah had already faced another tense interaction with Klopp. In more new footage, the duo can be seen on the pitch together at full-time.

It's a decidedly awkward encounter, which was shown by BBC on Match of the Day. Salah shakes the hand of David Moyes, seemingly exchanging one or two words, before giving Klopp a wide berth.

He then exits the field of play, giving the travelling fans a cursory round of applause as he makes his way off. It's clear his anger is still simmering at this point.

The new footage doesn't make Salah look any better at all. It can be chalked up to the heat of the moment, but it only adds to the feeling that this season is not ending at all how it was supposed to.

Liverpool.com says: Though it no doubt stems from a will to win, this is pure petulance from Salah. As long as he's able to front up to that and put it behind him, rather than letting it linger, there shouldn't be any more problems.

But he has to accept that throwing a strop will not make him an automatic pick for Klopp's final few games. Salah has not delivered on the pitch when needed, and while his anger-fueled West Ham cameo delivered one excellent driving run, he's largely failed to make an impact when called upon lately.

Arne Slot will inherit an awkward situation. A question that looked so clear-cut in the first half of the season is now trickier, and significant Saudi interest in Salah this summer will give Liverpool a decision to make.
