Shaun Wright-Phillips claims Mikel Arteta has no faith in two Arsenal players

Shaun Wright-Phillips has named the two players in Arsenal’s squad that he feels Mikel Arteta doesn’t have any faith in.

The Gunners are back on top of the Premier League table after their win against Wolves on Saturday. They could go four points clear of Manchester City if they beat Chelsea tonight, albeit Pep Guardiola’s side will have two games in hand.

City are still the favourites, but Arsenal can only do what they can, which is win all of their remaining games to stand the best chance of winning the Premier League title.

Arteta will likely go with his strongest available lineup in every single game from now until the end of the season, but his side may need help from those on the bench.

However, Wright-Phillips, son of Arsenal legend Ian Wright, believes Arteta doesn’t really trust two players who have spent more time on the bench than on the pitch.

Shaun Wright-Phillips makes interesting claim about Mikel Arteta, Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson

Arsenal are one of the best teams in the Premier League right now.

The Gunners have had a fine season so far. They’ve scored the most goals in the division and have conceded the least, and they are deservedly fighting for the title.

MORE ARSENAL STORIES

The one criticism about Arsenal this season is their lack of depth.

They have plenty of good players in their squad, but for one reason or another, Mikel Arteta rarely ever rotates his side to give a break to his key players.

That’s one of the reasons why many Arsenal stars looked really tired in their games against Wolves, Bayern Munich and Aston Villa.

Shaun Wright-Phillips had his say on that, and he pointed out the difference between Arteta and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp this season.

The pundit claimed that the German has given opportunities to many players in his squad, while at Arsenal, he says Arteta has no faith in substitutes like Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson.

He said on The Kelly and Wrighty Show ahead of the game against Chelsea: “The difference between Klopp and Arteta is that Klopp has trusted in his younger players – Quansah, Elliott.

“When Arsenal need to rotate, it’s just like he just doesn’t believe in Smith Rowe or Nelson to the point where when they do get a chance, all they’re thinking about is: ‘Man, I can’t make a mistake, otherwise I’m never going to get another minute’.

Predicted Arsenal XI vs Chelsea

Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson deserve more chances, especially the former, but Mikel Arteta has been reluctant to make wholesale changes.

Unfortunately for the two Hale End boys, that is unlikely to change in the remainder of the season.

Smith Rowe is likely to be on the bench when Chelsea come to the Emirates tonight, while Nelson might actually drop out of the squad altogether to accommodate Takehiro Tomiyasu‘s return.

We think Mikel Arteta will make two changes to his side from the win against Wolves last weekend – Tomiyasu and Jorginho in, Kiwior and Jesus out.

Predicted Arsenal XI vs Chelsea: Raya, White, Saliba, Gabriel, Tomiyasu, Jorginho, Rice, Odegaard, Saka, Havertz, Trossard.
