Sheffield Wednesday will surely be drawing up their plans for the summer transfer window.

Sheffield Wednesday gave themselves a huge boost in their fight for survival last time out.

The Owls beat Blackburn Rovers 3-1 in what was an exciting and memorable clash at Ewood Park, with Josh Windass and Marvin Johnson both on the scoresheet.

The win was sealed after Rovers goalkeeper Aynsley Pears put the ball into his own net in the second half.

Danny Rohl now sees his side sitting in 21st place of the Championship table, with Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town currently joining Rotherham United in the bottom three.

The end of this season, whatever the outcome, will put into place a lot of things for Sheffield Wednesday.

Staying up now looks very achievable.

And staying up would surely mean Rohl staying on and a lot of the players being handed new deals, with Dejphon Chansiri surely eager to avoid another summer rebuild.

And the Owls owner has been urged by journalist Dom Howson to back Rohl in the summer transfer window.

It feels like another vital transfer window for the club and for Chansiri, who remains a widely disliked figure among Sheffield Wednesday fans.

Sheffield Wednesday should join the race for Josh Murphy

One name in transfer headlines right now is Oxford United winger Josh Murphy.

The twin brother of Newcastle United man Jacob, Murphy at Oxford is enjoying a strong vein of form.

A left winger, Murphy has scored four goals since the start of March, with his Oxford United side eyeing up a top six finish in League One.

But the U’s now sit in 7th with one game left and Murphy sees his contract expire in the summer.

Recent reports have revealed that Championship quartet Sunderland, West Brom, QPR, and Southampton are keeping tabs on Murphy.

The Owls can win the race for Josh Murphy this summer

Murphy hasn’t blown away League One this season. He failed to score last season and has six in total this season, with four assists.

So a big move to one of Southampton, West Brom, or Sunderland may see him playing a back up role next time round, and Murphy may yet prefer going to a QPR or a Sheffield Wednesday.

Game time at Hillsborough would surely be more guaranteed and a move for Murphy would add a huge degree of experience and quality to the side.

And for Rohl, having someone experienced on the flanks would surely help to compliment the likes of Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba, who remain very raw players.

Musaba gas arguably been the Owls’ best winger this season, or at least their most prolific with six goals and five assists.

But Murphy averages 2.1 shots per game this season compared to Musaba’s 1.1, also managing 0.7 shots on target compared to Musaba’s 0.4 (Sofascore).

Murphy also averages a goal every 263 minutes compared to Musaba at 413, with the Dutchman having missed 7 big chances this season, and Murphy 6.

Whilst stepping up to the Championship might have an impact on those stats for Murphy, he certainly seems like someone who has the traits needed to step up, and having had mixed spells in the second tier in the past, Murphy would surely be keen to have another go and to prove any doubters wrong.

What’s more is that Murphy is currently earing £5.1k-a-week at Oxford United, and bringing him in on that same wage would make him one of the lowest-earning players at Sheffield Wednesday.

He’ll likely want a boost in wages but with players leaving this summer, that shouldn’t be an issue for Chansiri.

If Sheffield Wednesday can bring in Murphy on a free this summer, it could be a very shrewd signing.
