Crysencio Summerville has sent a message to Djed Spence on Instagram as the Leeds United flop continues to turn his season around in Italy while on loan at Genoa.

The 23-year-old joined Leeds on loan from Tottenham last summer. He followed Joe Rodon in going on loan to Rennes last season and then leaving Tottenham on loan again, this time to Daniel Farke’s side.

But it could not be more different in terms of how Rodon and Spence have got on in a Leeds shirt. The Wales defender has starred for Leeds, and could end up playing 50 times in one entire campaign.

Spence flopped at Elland Road despite making an impressive start on debut against Sheffield Wednesday. Injury then saw Spence miss the next three months and when he returned he only played six more times.

In January, Leeds decided to cancel his loan and send him back to Tottenham. Reports say that Spence and Farke disagreed on things, most notably that he was being used on the left side of the defence.

It is even claimed that Spence arrived late for the meeting with Farke in which the Leeds boss informed him his loan would be canceled. He has since moved to Serie A side Genoa on loan until the summer.

He posted on Instagram on Tuesday, clearly happy at his current side.

What Summerville said to Leeds flop Spence on Instagram

Where it did not go to plan for Spence in the Championship at Leeds, it is in Serie A with Genoa. A side that sold Radu Dragusin to Tottenham and could end up signing Spence on a permanent basis for £8.5m.

Spence has played 12 times for Genoa since joining them on loan, starting six times and completing 90 minutes four times. Genoa are said to be happy with how the loan is progressing and could sign him.

Championship Player of the Season Summerville responded to Spence’s Instagram post with a two-word message for the on-loan Tottenham defender. He may have been offloaded, but some at Leeds liked him.

What Spence said about being used at left-back at Leeds

Speaking in an interview with The Athletic recently, Spence said that he was being used on the left and it was not getting the best out of him. He also complained about feeling pain after his return from injury.

“I came back but I was still getting pain. I came back and was playing a bit but I was playing on the wrong side (left-back). Wasn’t easy. Didn’t get the best out of me, everyone wants to play in their best position.”

There is no doubting that Spence had talent but Leeds and Farke clearly were not the right fit for the England U21 man. Instead, Serie A and Genoa are and it is likely he stays there beyond his loan spell.
