Ben Foster ‘impressed’ by recent Bukayo Saka change at Arsenal that defenders now hate

Ben Foster has noted what Bukayo Saka has added to his game that has made the Arsenal winger even more deadly in front of goal.

The England international has enjoyed his most productive season to date as a first-team player, with Saka this year matching Ian Wright’s goalscoring record as an Englishman for Arsenal in the Premier League.

Establishing himself as Arsenal’s talisman in attack, Saka has taken his game to new heights this season with the north London giants as close as they have been in 20 years in winning the Premier League title heading into the last two games of the season.

And for Foster, one change in Saka’s game has made a big difference.

Speaking on the Premier Leauge’s official YouTube channel, the former Watford star noted that Saka’s willingness to shoot more with his right foot has caught defenders off guard, with the winger now even more dangerous to make for rival players.

Foster said on Saka: “What I’ve really been impressed with Bukayo this year is as a left-footed player on the right, a lot of people expect him to be cutting inside and it has become a little bit predictable.

“But this season what he’s been able to do and add to his game is that he’s so happy going out onto that right foot and getting a shot off, and he’s scored so many goals from it. The defender doesn’t like this, by the way, because he wants to take him inside.

“He creates that space for him and he gets a shot off, and instead of trying to be cute and trying to find corners, he puts his boot through and hits it as hard as he can, and he’s hitting the back if the net. I guarantee in training he’s been working hard on that right foot, just getting the shot off and hitting the target.”

Saka still has much to learn in the art of goalscoring

With 20 goals in all competitions this season, Saka has taken his goalscoring quality up another level, with the development of his weaker foot clearly producing results for the Gunners.

Yet as we know, there’s always more work that can be done in honing one’s craft, and Saka still has much to learn when it comes to the art of goalscoring, something the winger seemingly wants to become a master at.

Indeed, Saka has shown this season he is willing to adapt his game to punish his opponents as much as possible, and the winger is far from the completed article, a prospect that should excite Arsenal supporters.
