The six players 'set' to leave Newcastle United this summer as first transfer deal triggered

There could be plenty of movement at Newcastle United during this summer’s transfer window.

Newcastle United’s summer transfer business will once again be dictated by Premier League Profitability & Sustainability Rules (PSR).

The 2023-24 campaign is nearing its conclusion, which means the summer transfer window is just around the corner. But what’s install for the Magpies isn’t exactly clear.

“It's difficult for me to give absolute clarity on what's going to happen and what's not going to happen because I don't know,” said United admitted Eddie Howe last week. But Financial Fair Play is still, and will be this summer, something that we have to be aware of."

Howe is hoping there is scope to bring in new signings that will help take his squad to the next level and be able to compete on four fronts next season with European qualification a growing possibility following recent results.

Last week, Newcastle triggered a permanent deal for Lewis Hall - worth an initial £28million.

Hall joined on a season-long loan from Chelsea at the beginning of the campaign, which included an obligation to buy if certain performance-related criteria was met. The criteria was not based on Hall’s individual performance but if Newcastle finished 15th or higher in the Premier League. And that was mathematically achieved after last weekend’s 4-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur meant United can’t finish any lower than 14th.

The 20-year-old left-back will officially become the Magpies’ first summer signing. And to get more new players into the football club, it’s likely some will have to leave.

Before even talking about selling players, there are six players, as it stands, who will leave St James’ Park at the end of their contracts this summer. There are also several who are out-of-contract in 2025.

Here, NewcastleWorld takes a look at when every player’s current deal expires:

1 . Elliot Anderson - N/A Signed a ‘long-term’ deal in September 2022.
2 . Anthony Gordon - N/A Newcastle didn’t disclose the length of Gordon's contract when he signed from Everton just over 12 months ago.
3 . Harrison Ashby - N/A Similar to Gordon, the club didn’t reveal Ashby's contract length. Currently on loan at Swansea City.
Newcastle have triggered a permanent deal for Hall - currently on loan from Chelsea - after meeting the performance related criteria. He will sign a long-term contract this summer.
4 . Lewis Hall - TBC Newcastle have triggered a permanent deal for Hall - currently on loan from Chelsea - after meeting the performance related criteria. He will sign a long-term contract this summer.
