TBR Football understands that former Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick is close to finalising a deal to take charge of Bayern Munich.

Sources have confirmed to TBR that having failed to land their first two choices – Xabi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann – both of whom decided to stay put with Bayer Leverkusen and the German national side respectively – they have turned their attention to Ralf Rangnick

TBR understands that Brighton and Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi was also discussed at board level, along with Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness – but it is Rangnick who is set to arrive at the Allianz Arena this summer – although he is yet to give his final decision to the Bayern board, but they are expecting him to say yes.

Rangnick set to land Bayern Munich job

Rangnick is currently in charge of Austria, joining them in the summer of 2022 after his spell at Old Trafford came to an end.

Rangnick is set to take charge of Austria for their Euro 2024 finals campaign before taking up his place on the Bayern hot-seat.

The Austrian was appointed as interim boss and it was initially agreed that he would remain at Old Trafford in a consultancy role for at least two years.

Instead, United opted to go in a different direction when hiring Erik ten Hag and Rangnick’s departure was announced in May 2022.

The 65-year-old took charge of 24 Premier League games with the Red Devils, winning 10, drawing seven and losing seven times.

Rangnick steered United to a sixth-place finish that season before taking on his current role at the Austrian national team.

Having failed to land their two preferred targets in Alonso and Nagelsmann, a move for Rangnick could prove to be an astute one from Bayern.

The former United man boasts considerable experience in the Bundesliga after spells at RB Leipzig, FC Schalke, Hoffenheim and Stuttgart.
