Pundit Ian Wright has now shared whether he thinks a mistake was made late in the game between Aston Villa and Chelsea.

He told ‘Wrighty’s House’ if he thinks Axel Disasi’s late strike should have counted to hand the Blues all three points away from home.

It was a story of two halves for Chelsea at Villa Park, with them going into the break two goals down and under pressure to keep their fading hopes of qualifying for Europe alive.

The break was also a key moment for Mauricio Pochettino to show he still has what it takes to be in charge at Stamford Bridge, with some supporters not thinking that he is.

A tactical change at half-time turned things around though, with the Blues scoring twice through Noni Madueke and Conor Gallagher.

They were pushing for a winner late on, and thought they’d had it when Disasi’s header cannoned in off the bar, sending the away fans crazy.

This was eventually chalked off for a foul by Benoit Badiashile in the build up though, dividing opinion to say the least.

Wright was not convinced by the decision, stating that he believes it was the wrong call.

He said: “It was one of those I just thought it was so contentious. The ball has gone over and Diego Carlos has looked for Badiashille to try and lean into him. We’re taking about a big centre half here, he’s tried to lean into him but he’s got it wrong, because Badiashille wasn’t there, so Badiashille has tried to move him and then hit the ball.

“He has to be stronger there. He has got himself in a position where he was able to be off balance and he’s nudged him forward, that happens. It’s one of those where if it was given against me, I would be saying my centre-half has to be stronger there. He was off balance, he got it wrong.”

It is not the first time this season that Chelsea will feel as if a key decision has gone against them late in the day.

However, Pochettino now faces the task of keeping his players up to the task of the London derby against arch-rivals Tottenham.

A win is crucial for their hopes at qualifying for Europe for next season, and the boss will be looking to the likes of Cole Palmer for big performances again to help them get there.
