Monday was a big day of news in Liverpool’s search for their potential new manager.

The Reds are starting to run out of time as they deliberate the ideal candidate to follow in Jurgen Klopp’s enormous footsteps.

With just weeks of the season remaining, an appointment really needs to happen soon. And up until last night, it had looked likely that the chosen one would be Sporting manager Ruben Amorim.

News that Amorim was set to fly to England to meet with Liverpool yesterday was encouraging. However, Portuguese outlets have clarified that the 39-year-old actually jetted in to negotiate with West Ham, not the Reds. As per The Athletic, Amorim now looks ‘unlikely’ to move to Anfield.

As a result, Liverpool look set to assess other options. Up until now, it’s been a little unclear who they might be. But, thankfully, things are starting to make more sense.

Liverpool step up Thomas Frank interest

Amorim would have been many people’s choice to be in charge of the Liverpool first-team next season. The former Benfica midfielder looks set to win a second title in four years with Sporting.

As one of the top young managers in Europe, Amorim would feel an ambitious appointment from FSG.

However, according to TeamTALK, West Ham’s pursuit of the Portuguese has now focused Liverpool’s attention on a different candidate.

It’s claimed that the Reds are now ‘seriously considering’ making a big push to secure Brentford manager Thomas Frank.

Frank is said to have ‘plenty of admirers’ at Liverpool and efforts to make him Klopp’s successor will reportedly be ‘intensified’ in light of West Ham’s interest in Amorim.

The 50-year-old is claimed to be happy at Brentford, although would ‘find it difficult to turn down’ the Liverpool job should it fall into his lap.

Why do Liverpool want Thomas Frank

It’s hard to escape the likelihood that Frank would be seen as an underwhelming appointment at Liverpool to follow on from Klopp.

However, the Dane is certainly held in high regard by Jurgen himself. Back in 2021, ahead of his first meeting with the Bees in the Premier League, Klopp described Frank as doing a ‘brilliant job’ with his team [This Is Anfield].

The mutual respect doesn’t stop there, however. With Mohamed Salah’s future currently up in the air, any new manager will have to sort out what’s going on there.

And it seems that Frank would be keen to keep Salah on board. After Liverpool beat Brentford in November last year, the Bees’ boss hailed the Egypytian as the best player in the Premier League [Liverpool ECHO].

If things fall into place for Frank, he may soon be able to call on Mo himself.
