Sheffield Wednesday set to sign Leeds talent with ‘crazy energy’ on a free ahead of Ian Poveda deal

Sheffield Wednesday are expected to complete the permanent signing of Ian Poveda from Leeds United but are also lining up a move to sign another Elland Road attacker this summer.

Colombia international Poveda, 24, went on loan to Wednesday on deadline day in January after just 10 outings for Leeds in the first half of the season, helping Danny Rohl’s side survive the threat of relegation.

With Poveda out of contract at the end of the season, the pocket-sized winger is expected to sign a deal with Wednesday beyond his loan and Rohl has confirmed Wednesday are keen to do a permanent move.

But he might not be the only player that remains on Leeds books to join Rohl’s men in the summer. A report from Leeds Live claims a 19-year-old talent could follow Poveda in joining Wednesday on a free.

Indeed, Keenan Carole is set to see his contract at Elland Road expire in the summer despite clocking up 67 appearances for Leeds’ Under-18 and Under-21 sides and having a hand in 17 goals in that time.

Here is what the report says, regarding a move to Wednesday for Carole:

Wednesday set to sign Keenan Carole from Leeds on a free

Back in 2022, French teen Carole signed a two-year deal at Elland Road but with a month remaining left on that contract he looks set to depart for nothing at the end of the season and Wednesday are keen.

MORE LEEDS UNITED STORIES

Carole has already gone on trial at Leeds’ Yorkshire rivals, playing against Ipswich Town for The Owls’ U21 side last week. Reports had emerged of Wednesday’s interest but Leeds Live take it a step further.

They say Carole, who is the son of former Leeds winger Sebastian Carole, is set to sign at Hillsborough. It could be that Wednesday end up taking two attacking players from Leeds without paying a single penny.

What Seb Carole said about “crazy” son Keenan recently

Clearly a talented teen and good enough to be a regular in the U18 and U21 sides at Thorp Arch, Carole can play on either flank or as a full-back and that will have helped convince Wednesday over a move.

That and comments made by his Father back in 2022, who gave an overview of his son’s style on the pitch: “He has crazy energy on the pitch, can do a lot of things, with and without the ball,” Carole said.

“In parallel with his studies, he shows immense seriousness. He is a good kid, who makes a lot of effort to succeed. He plays in the same position as me but he does it with much more determination,” he added.
