Tottenham Hotspur have missed out on some notable signings over the years.
The club’s transfer policy has often frustrated Tottenham fans, with many believing Spurs have failed to kick on at crucial times.
We’ve seen the likes of Sadio Mane, Jack Grealish and Bruno Fernandes all heavily linked with moves to Tottenham, only to end up elsewhere.
Of course, the above players ended up with Premier League rivals and have enjoyed success after missing out on a switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
While Jose Mourinho’s time at Spurs was largely miserable due to his unfavourable style of play, it’s fair to say he wasn’t exactly backed in the transfer market.
The Portuguese boss was desperate to land a new centre-back but ended up with Joe Rodon after links to now PSG star Milan Skriniar.
After Mourinho’s arrival back in November 2019, it quickly became apparent that Spurs needed reinforcements at centre-back.
Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld were slowing down, while Davinson Sanchez was largely inconsistent.
And according to former Galatasaray centre-back Christian Luyindama, he was close to securing a move to Tottenham ahead of the January window.
Speaking to Fotospor, Luyindama claimed he had offers from Spurs and Aston Villa but a knee injury scuppered the move.
“I had many offers, Tottenham and Aston Villa,” the 30-year-old said. “I had to play against Gambia and then go back to Istanbul to finalise the details.
“I got a knee injury and my transfer didn’t happen. I couldn’t realise my dreams.”
The DR Congo international’s career went downhill after suffering a knee injury which prevented his move to England.
He spent the following 239 days on the sidelines and wouldn’t return to action until July 2020.
Luyindama is currently without a club after his contract at Galatasaray expired last summer following loan spells at Antalyaspor and Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Taawoun.
While the injury clearly impacted the centre-back’s fortunes, he still scooped two league titles during his spell in Turkey while also landing two domestic cups.
