Sunderland face losing Anthony Patterson to a top Premier League side this summer.

Despite a tough campaign for Sunderland, a number of their prized assets continue to attract interest from the top flight and beyond.

Jack Clarke is one star who looks extremely likely to leave the Stadium of Light, while the likes of Anthony Patterson, Dan Neil and Dan Ballard are all linked with the exit door.

Liverpool are one club who have been rumoured to be interested in signing Patterson, having become a regular fixture in the Black Cats’ squad since they were in League One.

The Reds are likely to part ways with Caoimhin Kelleher this summer and will be looking for a new back-up goalkeeper to Alisson, and may see the Sunderland youngster as the perfect replacement.

While Patterson has received some criticism this season, he could be very difficult for Sunderland to replace.

Here are three goalkeepers that the Wearside outfit could look at to replace the 23-year-old.

Sunderland’s potential goalkeeper targets

Viktor Johansson

Viktor Johansson has become a vital cog in Rotherham United’s team in recent seasons, having one their Young Player of the Year award in his first campaign.

He was named in the Championship’s team of the season last term, as well as scooping up more awards in the club’s Player of the Season and the Players’ Player of the Season.

Reports have claimed that the Swede has a £1 million relegation clause in his contract and is highly likely to leave the Yorkshire outfit this summer.

James Beadle

James Beadle spent the first half of the season with Oxford United in League One, where he picked up eight clean sheets in 19 games.

He then earned himself a move up to the Championship with Sheffield Wednesday and continued to impress, claiming another eight clean sheets in 19 games – the sixth highest percentage in the second tier.

Wednesday are thought to be eager to resign the teenager this summer, but could also be a good addition for Sunderland.

Daniel Iversen

Daniel Iversen has been with Leicester City since 2018, but has spent most of his career out on loan.

The shot-stopper was named Preston North End’s Player of the Year for the 2021-22 campaign, before earning himself a spot in the Foxes’ team.

He memorably saved three penalties in the penalty shoot-out in a Carabao Cup clash with Stockport County, before making his Premier League debut last season.

He then went onto join Stoke City on loan in January and helped them secure their Championship status.

The Dane’s contract is set to expire next summer and so could be offloaded for a fee over the next few months.
