Antonio Conte has now finally signed a player he wanted to bring to Tottenham during his time in N17.

The Italian rarely looked happy in north London, as he frequently ripped into Spurs and mocked the history of Tottenham‘s ability to fight for silverware in press conferences.

Antonio Conte was also – presumably – frustrated that he couldn’t bring one of his favourite players to Tottenham, although that has now changed after he was appointed by Napoli…

Antonio Conte signs Leonardo Spinazzola after wanting him at Tottenham

A story from GFNI (Get Football News Italy) states that the 54-year-old was very keen to sign Leonardo Spinazzola during his time at Tottenham.

Conte is also said to have wanted the Italy international to join his Inter Milan side – who he guided to the Serie A title before departing for Spurs in November 2021.

Now, the man from Lecce has finally been united with Spinazzola – after Napoli announced his arrival on a free transfer, following the expiry of his contract with Roma.

Italy international would have been a great fit under Ange Postecoglou

In our view, Tottenham should have attempted to sign Spinazzola themselves this summer.

Ange Postecoglou appears to be on the lookout for a new left sided defender to ease the workload on Destiny Udogie, after Oliver Skipp finished the 2023/24 playing out of position in that area.

Therefore, a bargain move for Spinazzola would have made plenty of sense.

The 31-year-old could have provided a strong level of experience to help Postecoglou’s young squad, while he also enjoyed an impressive 2023/24 campaign for Roma, scoring one goal while providing four assists in 36 appearances.

Nevertheless, Conte has now finally got his hands on Spinazzola, and Tottenham’s hunt to improve that area of Postecoglou’s backline goes on.
