Manchester City could be crowned Premier League champions with a game to spare having eased past Wolves on Saturday.

Erling Haaland struck a first half hat-trick at the Etihad Stadium, including two penalties, to put the result beyond doubt before the break. He added a fourth seconds after Hwang Hee-chan had scored for Wolves and sub Julian Alvarez put the gloss on a 5-1 win to move City within a point of leaders Arsenal with a game in hand.

Indeed City could be celebrating the title before the final weekend of the season if rivals Manchester United do them a favour. Arsenal are on 83 points following their victory over Bournemouth. Mikel Arteta's side have two games to play - at Manchester United and at home to Everton. It means they can reach a maximum of 89.

City will be unable to win the title next weekend following Arsenal's most recent success, even if they see off Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday lunchtime and the Gunners lose at Old Trafford on the Sunday.

But, if Arsenal fail to beat United and City defeat Fulham and then Spurs the following Tuesday, then Guardiola's men would be crowned champions in the capital. Any other combination of results would see the title race go to the final day of the season when City take on West Ham and Arsenal face Everton.

City are seeking an unprecedented fourth straight Premier League title while Arsenal haven't been crowned champions since their unbeaten season of 2004. Liverpool can mathematically still top the table but it would require an incredible set of results for Jurgen Klopp to sign off his Anfield tenure with a championship.
